Who Are We?
A Christian Church. An association of people who believe that Jesus is the Son of God, who became man. He therefore revealed God in a unique way, and died on a cross to make a sacrifice that was acceptable to God as sufficient punishment for the sins of all people. He came back to life, and now awaits the time to come again and take all Christians to be with him for ever. We believe that salvation is only available through repentance and trust in Jesus as Saviour, and a willingness to follow his ways.
An Evangelical Church. We hold that the Bible is the Word of God - the way that truth about God is communicated by him to us. Therefore, it is reliable, and to be preached, believed, and obeyed by Christians. It stands above Christian traditions and human reason, and must inform and correct them.
An Anglican Church. We are associated with a number of other Christian churches who have similar faith and traditions, and a prescribed method of church leadership. The Anglican denomination has an excellent statement of faith (based on the Bible) called The Thirty-Nine Articles. It is printed in the back of our Prayer Books.
A Church with a vision. Our vision statement is: To know Christ, and to make him known. We endeavour to judge our life and activities by this statement. We encourage all Christians to live by the same vision. Our Parish Council has established six goals which we believe will help us fulfil this vision.
They are:
- To prepare people for ministry.
- To increase the church's profile in the community.
- To encourage personal devotion.
- To encourage regular attendance at church services.
- To encourage participation in home groups.
- To increase the concern of church members for those who do not know Jesus.
The parish council reviews these goals and considers how we may best fulfil them, on a regular basis.
